Emergency Appointment

It is essential that you are in possession of the required documentation before you make this request. Please be aware that false statements about the need for an emergency appointment may adversely affect the case credibility during the visa interview.

(A) Medical Care: Purpose of travel is to obtain emergency medical care, or to accompany a relative or employer for emergency medical care.

     Essential documentation:

  1. A letter from the doctor in Malaysia describing the medical condition, such as the urgency of the need to travel and certifying that such care is not available in Malaysia.
  2. A letter from the physician or hospital in the United States indicating that they are prepared to treat the case and providing the approximate cost of the treatment including all incidental expenses.
  3. Evidence of how one shall pay for the cost of the treatment and incidental expenses.

(B) Funeral/Death: Purpose of travel is to attend the funeral of an immediate family member (mother, father, brother, sister, child, grandparent or grandchild) in the United States.

     Essential documentation:

  1. A letter from the funeral director stating the contact information and details of the deceased and date of the funeral.
  2. Evidence that the deceased is an immediate relative.

(C) Business: Purpose of travel is to attend to a business matter where the travel requirement could not be predicted sufficiently in advance.

     Essential documentation:

  1. A letter from the corresponding company in the United States and from the Malaysian company attesting to the urgency of the planned visit, describing the nature of the business and that either the US or Malaysian company will suffer a significant loss, if an emergency appointment is not available.

(D) Government Officers: Who have been sent by their ministries as last minute replacements or additions to official delegations; or who have been traveling outside of Malaysia and have been previously unavailable, and who cannot wait for the drop-box turnaround time of 2-3 days.

    Essential documentation:

  1. letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming that the trip is a governmental and not a private one.
  2. letter from the sponsoring government agency attesting to the applicant’s essential participation in the trip.
  3. If needed, an invitation letter or description of the conference/trade show/mission from the U.S. sponsor or partner.
